Company Profile

Petru van Zyl, a South African skin therapist, is the Founder and Co-developer of the pHformula product line. She is based in Barcelona, Spain where she is a researcher and author of influential educational material that is used and applied in more than 25 countries today. She is also the director and tutor of post-graduate speciality education at the Skin Academy in Barcelona. She has a passionate interest in her field and has travelled the world actively researching the latest information on skin biology and cosmetic chemistry. The great progress and advances within this field have captured her interest and she has gained much experience and knowledge working in close collaboration with several internationally renowned master opinion leaders, most of whom are well-known dermatologists, plastic surgeons and aesthetic surgeons.

The Laboratory

Fernando Bouffard (PhD), a pharmacist, is the mastermind behind the pH formulations. With decades of combined experience in scientific knowledge, skin chemistry and aesthetic medicine in the pharmaceutical market, he is committed to developing cutting-edge scientific products. The pHformula laboratories, based in Barcelona, Spain were founded in the late nineteenth century and are controlled by Fernando, a fourth generation of the family of pharmacists who first started the laboratory. Specialising in dermatology, his work reflects the benefits of a research-based approach to dermatologic innovation.

The Brand

pHformula is a dermatological skin resurfacing system with a product range to support its skin resurfacing treatments. It finds itself between cosmeceuticals and the physician’s practice and has been successfully introduced in more than 30 countries worldwide.

The brand focus of pHformula is on pharma-cosmeuticals which allow for maximum strength formulations without a prescription – pharmaceutical grade actives which result in highly effective treatments and products. One of the exciting innovations of the range is PH-DVC ™, the bio-availability delivery complex which was developed to provide controlled, targeted delivery of actives while preserving the integrity of the epidermis. This delivery system is found in both their resurfacing treatments and in their home care products which contain acids. Fernando Bouffard has engaged in the study of trans-delivery systems and has made unique formulation discoveries, which today have a profound influence on the course of new developments around the world.

The Skin Academy – Barcelona

With years of experience, there was a worldwide demand for Fernando to share his knowledge and expertise and has therefore become a renowned international speaker who has presented more than 100 lectures at numerous aesthetic medicine congresses worldwide. As a result of this, he founded the first of its kind, a Skin Academy in Barcelona, where he teaches skin histology, biochemistry, cosmetic chemistry and medical aesthetics together with numerous international leaders in dermatology, plastic and cosmetic surgery, aesthetic medicine and skin therapy. The Skin Academy in Barcelona provides an important foundation to the pHformula brand, where it offers various advanced training workshops to all skin specialists

pHformula & Dermastore®

Dr Ian Webster, Dermatologist, first introduced pHformula homecare products into his practice in 2013 to support the pHformula skin resurfacing treatments used in his practice. The product range contains a mixture of ingredients to prep the skin before a skin treatment and a range of products to support the skin post-treatment.

Dr Webster has always believed in an integrated approach to skin health – believing that skin rejuvenation treatments should be supported by home care products containing active ingredients.

In March 2017 pHformula launched their medical range – pHformula MD. This range will only be sold by medical doctors in South Africa because of the high concentrations of active ingredients, and we’re proud to be the exclusive online stockists of this brand.
