Hydrolysis involves breaking these bonds with water, resulting in shorter peptide chains. While it’s not identical to collagen, it retains collagen’s exceptional ability to bind water, functioning as a powerful humectant and moisturiser. When applied to the skin, it forms a hydrating film on the stratum corneum (the upper skin layer), promoting smoothness and reducing water loss through evaporation.
