Hydrolyzed Collagen is a fragmented form of collagen, typically sourced from fish or bovine origins. Collagen, a protein, consists of long chains of amino acids linked by peptide bonds. Hydrolysis involves breaking these bonds with water, resulting in shorter peptide chains. While it’s not identical to collagen, it retains collagen’s exceptional ability to bind water, functioning as a powerful humectant and moisturiser. When applied to the skin, it forms a hydrating film on the stratum corneum (the upper skin layer), promoting smoothness and reducing water loss through evaporation.
