Xylitol is a type of sugar that’s part of a moisturising trio called Aquaxyl. It is a humectant which is an important cosmetic ingredient that prevents moisture loss, thereby retaining the skin’s natural moisture. Some compounds also have the ability to attract moisture actively. Clinical studies show it can be satisfactorily used in skincare preparations as a humectant. Xylitol also prevents the growth of cavity-causing bacteria, helping prevent cavities and strengthening dental enamel.
