NeoStrata was founded by Dr Eugene van Scott, a Dermatologist and Dr Ruey Yu a Dermatopharmacologist, in 1988. In fact, they had started collaborating in the early 70s and patented Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) for the treatment of Ichthyosis, a dry, thickened scaly skin condition. They then realised that these AHAs were beneficial for epidermal renewal and went on to develop the first glycolic acid peel.
They developed many other ingredients such as the Polyhydroxy Acids (which include Gluconolactone, Lactobionic acid and Maltobionic acid), Neoglucosamine, and Aminofil. Over the years they have registered over 100 patents for NeoStrata.
NeoStrata was one of the first so-called cosmeceuticals that I introduced to my practice approximately 20 years ago. The NeoStrata Skin Active range is a tried, tested and trusted brand that is recommended by many well-established Dermatologists in South Africa.
In 2014, my wife and I had the privilege of being invited to a training workshop at the NeoStrata headquarters in Princeton the USA. At the time, we also had the honour of meeting the founders Dr van Scott and Dr Huey. They were both in their 90s and we were interested to see what beautiful skins they both had for men of that age. I was able to tour the NeoStrata research and development laboratories and learnt just how much time and expertise it takes to develop a new product and bring it to market. This is a cornerstone of NeoStrata’s commitment to developing quality products that are not only efficacious but also stand the test of time.
In 2016, Johnson and Johnson Consumer Inc. purchased NeoStrata.
More recently, NeoStrata has developed a new peptide called MicroDiPeptide²²⁹®. The 229 refers to its size: 229 Daltons, which makes it small enough to deeply penetrate through the skin’s epidermis and making it 2.5 times smaller than most other peptides. When it comes to penetration of products into the skin, size does really matter. This new peptide is backed by eight years of development and clinical studies and it targets key matrix markers including pro-collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid boosting firmness, hydration and contouring.
The Skin Active range has always contained a unique blend of well-researched and synergistic ingredients that, over time, have been shown to improve skin ageing. A new, exciting formulation upgrade to the Skin Active range includes MicroDiPeptide²²⁹® and other powerful ingredients.
The NeoStrata Triple Firming Neck Cream has an upgraded formulation that includes the MicroDiPeptide²²⁹® together with Neoglucosamine, Neocitrate, Vitamin E, Bakuchiol and Apple Stem Extract.
The Tri-Therapy Lifting Serum has also had an upgraded formulation and now contains MicroDiPeptide²²⁹®, Aminofil, Gluconolactone, Hyaluronic acid and Swiss Alpine Extract.
A latest product to introduced by innovative NeoStrata is the NeoStrata Rebound Sculpting Cream which also contains the MicroDiPeptide²²⁹®, a blend AHAs and PHAs, Alpine Plant Extracts (Gigawhite).
