Obagi Nu-Derm Blend FX

This Obagi range is AMAZING!!! This, along with the clear fx, have become my holy grails and will forever be in my routine – I do not say that lightly. I initially bought them to help with very stubborn hormonal hyperpigmentation around my eyes where no ‘brightening’ products before that, and even retinol eye products, could help get rid of the problem. These were products I was using for over a year with no satisfying results. With consistent use, using the Blend Fx and the Clear Fx together, my eyes are finally a normal colour that matches the rest of my skin and I no longer look like a raccoon. It took time, two months to be specific, but I finally achieved my desired results.

The products have done wonders for the rest of my skin in terms of brightness, texture, and reducing/removing stubborn hyperpigmentation along my cheekbones and my neck. It seems that they also really enhance the efficacy of my other products (serums etc.) because since using them, I can go days without using any of my active ingredients and my skin won’t fall apart – it will look just as good as it does when I’m using my active ingredients consistently, and that’s a very new thing for me. Before these products, If I stopped using my active ingredients for at least three days the quality of my skin would start to decline, but that is not the case anymore. I go two weeks without active skincare and my skin still looks amazing.

Around my eye area, at first it didn’t look like it was doing anything, but If you persist, you will see the AMAZING things that this product (and the Clear Fx) can do for you. I’ve also been on tretinoin/retin-a for two years which is amazing on its own, so when I say that Obagi has something to offer beyond what even tretinoin can do for you I really mean it.

I have had pretty bad melasma around my eyes since my early twenties (mid-30s now, no kids), and my dermatologist recently presrcibed me a round of hydroquinone to help lighten the marks. Knowing that I can use hydroquinone for only three months at a time, I wanted a product that I could switch to for longer-term daily use, and Johani from Dermastore recommended that I try Obagi’s Nu-Derm Blend FX.

I was sceptical after reading some reviews about the smell of the product and people complaining that it did nothing for their pigmentation but, after less than two weeks of using this, I can honestly say that the Blend FX cream works way better than even the high-dose hydroquinone did!

I use the Blend FX cream at night in the place of a serum, and in the morning, I apply the Obagi Professional-C 10% Vitamin C serum. My pigmentation is almost completely dissolved, and as a bonus, this cream sommer took care of the odd pimple (and post-inflammatory pigmentation) too!

I experienced very little peeling, no sensitivity (which is saying something, since my skin is sensitive even to plain water!), no dryness; just beautiful, clear, glowing skin. There is definitely a chemical smell, but it is nowhere near as bad as some reviews say it is, and it doesn’t bother me one bit.

NB. I am religious about slathering on a high SPF sunscreen and reapplying throughout the day (spray-on sunscreens are great for reapplying over make-up).

My skin is definitely brighter because people keep on telling me so. Another winner!
